How it’s calculated

For n periods, APY = (1 + APR/n)^n − 1. The inverse is APR = n × ((1 + APY)^(1/n) − 1). Continuous compounding uses e^APR − 1 and ln(1 + APY).

Assumptions

Rates are entered as annual percentages. Discrete frequencies use 365, 52, or 12 periods per year. Negative annual rates at or below −100% are invalid.

Sources

Standard compound interest identities. The continuous conversion uses the natural exponential and logarithm.

FAQ

What is APY?

Annual percentage yield is an effective annual rate that includes compounding.

How does compounding frequency change APY?

For the same positive APR, more frequent compounding increases the effective APY.

Can I convert APY back to APR?

Yes. Select APY to APR and choose the compounding convention to invert.

Is this financial advice?

No. Rates are mathematical conversions, not product offers.
